PRODUCT DESIGN
PROCESS
RAPID IDEATION
Different stages of the design process call for different methods of idea generation. At the outset, sketches are kept very fluid, very free, and very simple. Generally, it’s these fundamental ‘starting-point’ sketches that lead to a genurinely original, well thought-out design direction. Free-form sketching, or ‘thinking sketches’ can be one of the most vital aspects of the design process.
BALLPOINT + CINTIQ TABLET
In order to achieve that ‘hand-drawn’ look and soft, organic feel, sketches are often done by hand and then scanned. Once digitized, the sketches are used as an underlay for a digital sketch. Often, the orignal lines are kept in tact and shading is implemented on a separate layer. The end result is a clean, yet controllable sketch that conveys an idea in a very presentable way.
